Su Xinping, born in 1960 in Jining, Inner Mongolia, is a celebrated Chinese printmaker, painter, and professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing. After early military service, he graduated from Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts (1983) and earned an MA in Printmaking from CAFA (1989), where he now serves as a senior professor and deputy head of the printmaking department. Known for his lithographs, etchings, and paintings, Su explores social transformation, alienation, and the tensions of rapid modernization in China. His Sea of Desire and Toasting series blend precise figuration with underlying compassion and existential anxiety. His art is held in major institutions like the British Museum, San Francisco MoMA, National Gallery of Victoria, Fukuoka Museum of Art, Shanghai Art Museum, and the National Art Museum of China. Su’s work is distinguished by its quiet intensity—marking him as a defining voice in contemporary Chinese print and painterly discourse.
