Hu Qingyan
Golden Mountain No. 2, gold paper, 100 × 230 cm, 2014
Hu Qingyan’s Golden Mountain, stacked along the skylight opening, connects the lower level of the exhibition space into a unified whole… From metaphysical inquiries into life and death, faith, myth, and spirit, to explorations of the body, worldly pleasure, and display; from tracing and excavating image history and cultural history, to reflecting on the ostentatious visuality of contemporary society and the systems of production, consumption, capital, and finance behind it—the “gold” in this exhibition reveals the multidimensional tensions of art situated between historical–cultural experience and contemporary sensibility.
