Golden-Mended Robe, 2020, silk and gold pigment, 168 × 1700 cm

Golden-Mended Camo is conceived as an anthropomorphic textile whose patterns and textures derive from the subtle differences between various skin tones. The nature of camouflage fabric signifies not only coexistence and integration, but—given its frequent use in military contexts—also embodies notions of concealment and conflict. The use of gold pigment in the work draws from the concept of “jinshan” (gold mending), the traditional method of repairing broken objects with gold. These golden strokes evoke a quiet sense of mending and the delicate emotions of mutual completion. Through the work’s anthropomorphic qualities, this emotion dissolves into a broader reflection on racial communities and shared human experience.
