Over the course of more than three decades, Rudy Pulcinelli has explored a wide range of forms and materials, constantly expanding the expressive possibilities of his artistic language. This exhibition, however, marks a significant new milestone. It not only brings the artist and his work back to Beijing, a city that has many times served as a second home for him, but also presents the outcome of a transformative experience: a residency at CHAO Printmaking Studio, where he confronted an unfamiliar and untested medium — printmaking.
Remaining faithful to his distinctive visual language, an abstraction that composes and interacts with the glyphs of seven different writing systems, Pulcinelli has here created a series of prints infused with a rare clarity. These works compel us to approach closely, to linger on the surface of the paper, to follow the interplay of lines and shadows, and to sense with our eyes the texture of the material as it enters into dialogue with the imprinted characters.
REFLETTERE stands as a testament to the resilience and vitality of Pulcinelli’s artistic language, which cuts across time and matter. It offers us precisely what we seem to need most in the challenging times we inhabit: an opportunity to pause and reflect on ourselves, on the ways we communicate, and on the relationships we weave with those around us and the world that sustains us.
