Sui Jianguo
Sui Jianguo, born in 1956 in Qingdao, is a pioneering Chinese sculptor and professor at Beijing’s Central Academy of Fine Arts, where he leads the Sculpture Department . Trained at Shandong University of Arts (BA, 1984) and CAFA (MA, 1989), he rose to international prominence in the 1990s with monumental works that blend concept and form . Among his best‑known motifs are oversized steel dinosaurs and cast bronze Mao jackets—symbolic explorations of China’s transition from socialism to modernity . Since the late 2000s, his work incorporates advanced techniques like 3D scanning, digital engraving, and video performance, emphasizing sensory experience, time, and culture via innovative large‑scale installations.
