Ella & Pier
In the autumn of 2016, Ella & Pitr were invited to Beijing by the brand CHAO, where they secretly completed an improvised large-scale painting on the rooftop terrace of CHAO in Sanlitun. The work reflects their personal emotions and unique interpretation of the city. Instead of creating one of their signature giant human figures, they painted a pair of “Love Birds.
“There are no birds in Beijing’s sky, so we brought two of them ourselves!” said Ella & Pitr. Their beaks are tightly bound together with ropes, set against an intense, fiery orange background. “This represents the smog—people can’t open their mouths to breathe, or rather, very few know how to deal with the issue,” they explained. Yet even as they voiced their concerns, Ella & Pitr also expressed a warm sense of hope for the city.
