Song Mingxiao

The past is the past. On the traditional path of learning to paint, one inevitably suffers through drawing plaster casts. I was always trying to make this dull, lifeless thing come alive. It all comes from teaching—breaking free from traditional constraints. Besides, I’m someone with boundless imagination and an endless appetite for delight.

Contemporary art is: a respectable excuse for a group of madmen who simply don’t want to work comfortably alongside the artists of the past.

The drive to keep creating comes from faith. This relentless pursuit of art is my life’s belief—an emotion akin to being deeply in love with life itself, where even in suffering there is hope.
