Artist
Wang Qibiao
Wang Qibiao, born in 1974 in Guangzhou, holds a Master’s degree from the Printmaking Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. Having worked for years in a museum’s collection department, he developed a unique sensitivity to “numbering” and archival organization. His works are often titled with numbers, conveying a cool, rational tone. Since 2014, he has pioneered “Board Image” art, rooted in traditional woodcut yet discarding the printing process. He directly uses cuts, ink marks, and wood grain as the final image, emphasizing the language of material and structure. His practice bridges printmaking and painting, retaining the physical power of the wood while creating abstract and profound spiritual spaces.
