Lu Fan

Lu Fan graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Printmaking from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2017 and earned his master’s degree in Printmaking from the same institution in 2021. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Aesthetics at Renmin University of China, expected to complete in 2024. The Skin I Live In explores memory not as something concrete, but as residing in the temperature and texture of one’s skin, frozen by time into eternity. Memories are repeatedly corroded and covered until they become faded films—blurred illusions that may gradually be forgotten but never truly disappear. Specimen views traces as specimens of time—aging, peeling, and naturally eroding, with every process fully recorded. The work uses direct acid etching on the plate surface to achieve layers of gradation, with each mark accumulating weight and depth. When acid is poured onto the copper plate, the touched areas corrode, covering previous marks without completely erasing them, as the sensitive copper still records every trace. This process of creating marks on the copper plate is, in essence, making a specimen.
